Turning Reflective Chrome into Dull Metallic

I have a question which I'm unable to find an answer for, and wonder if you can help. I am an amateur metal worker, and a friend is interested in dulling a piece of furniture, which is chrome finish today, into a satin like finish for aesthetic reasons. Can I just apply a metal brush to the scratch and scour it up, similar to how they are working stainless steel these days with a random orbital sander? Or are there finishes that I can apply on top of the chrome and is reasonably tough? There's a Krylon Dulling Spray [affil links], but the effect is temporary and apparently is meant for product photography, to prevent the chrome from being too reflective.

Thanks
