Heat-anodizing of titanium

What temperature ranges will heat-anodize titanium? Could putting complicated objects in an oven or kiln provide consistent overall color compared to electrical anodizing? I have been making necklace chains which I dunk in electrolyte + DC but often the color is inconsistent throughout the chain at higher voltages. I was thinking along the lines of getting a small toaster oven as a low cost solution, would it provide enough heat for a full color range? (500 °F degrees) Or am I looking at kiln temperature ranges? P.S. Any books on the subject of coloring titanium that come recommended?

A. Hi Joe. Considering humidity differences, heat-up & cool-down times, etc., I can't imagine that heat anodizing of titanium could give you more consistent color than anodizing, where an exact voltage can give you a quite exact color.

My suggestion is to search the site for the many threads we have on "anodizing of titanium", and see what people have to say about getting consistent color. Good luck.

Luck & Regards,
