How do I best remove the rust from an old pickup truck bed?

I recently obtained a 1980 Dodge Pickup with a rusted bed. It has been suggested to me that Muriatic acid could be used to remove the rust. I have no experience with the chemical and have no real safe way to dispose of the acid after it's use. What would you suggest to more safely, but efficiently, do the job?

You can use citric acid this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] solution (5%,50 gm citric acid /1 lit water), or 5% solution of ammonium citrate(pH 3,5-this is citric acid /ammonia 25% mixture)! Only for degreased objects!

Good luck!
