Stripping chrome from and rechroming a bumper
I am customizing a 1996 Chevrolet pickup and I can't find a custom rear bumper. I have a friend who owns a metal shop that will modify the original Chevy bumper, but I need to know if I have to remove the chrome from the bumper to modify it, and what is the approximate cost of rechroming a bumper. Can you remove the chrome from a bumper and is it necessary?
Thanks,

I can't say I am experienced in reforming bumpers, but I don't think it's necessary to strip them first. Replating will definitely be required, and will cost several hundred dollars but I can't say whether its $250 or $750, since that would depend both on the quality of the job and whether the shop is anxious to do the work or is relatively uninterested.
