Data for using Al IVD to replace Cadmium plating
I am looking for some usable data, preferably Aircraft related, to compare Al IVD process versus Cadmium plating. My dissertation looks at alternative processes (are there any others) to Cadmium plating. Looking at a safer, and more environmentally friendly way forward. I have searched the net for information, with some success, but would appreciate any data to Hypothesis test, correlate, use some Cp, etc., and intend to use Statistical Analysis tools to prove my theory. All information will be treated with strict confidence and only used for my University study purposes.

I'm sure you already realize that Cadmium is an element, Mr. Davies. As such, it has a set of properties, and no other material has those same exact properties--if it did, that other material would be cadmium too :-)
This is obvious, of course, but the point is that there is no across the board substitute for cadmium or for anything else for that matter. There are only replacements that suffice (or excel) for specific applications.
IVD has been found to be a good replacement for cadmium on many aircraft fasteners because it is galvanically compatible with aluminum (it is aluminum). For some other applications, zinc alloys such as zinc-nickel, zinc-cobalt, and tin-zinc have replaced cadmium. Many aerospace companies have been working on what you are looking into, and I think you can find some of their test results on the web.
You can certainly buy them, for example, see http://www.stormingmedia.us/64/6408/A640803.html

Thanks Ted, I appreciate your help, I will look this data up and start crunching the numbers. My line was initially going for the more environmentally friendly methods. But without guessing, I really need to explore all the alternatives on offer first.
Thanks Again,
