OEM wants to painting galvannealed electrical enclosures
2004
We are an OEM manufacturer of Electrical equipment. We use 11 Gauge Galvannealed Steel and are having difficulty finding a paint & primer that will work well. We have used several systems over the years, with most flaking or "alligatoring" after several months in the field. Our customers sometimes ask for an epoxy or Polyurethane if they are in high corrosive or salt environments, but we would like to find a cheaper solution for normal environments compatible with Galvannealed steel. 1. What will work ? 2. Is the galvannealed steel so similar to galvanized steel that we should treat it the same for painting ?
Thank you for any input.

Galvanized and galvanneal for pretreating and painting can be done the same. If the paint system is not standing up, maybe your pretreatment, if you are using one, needs to be optimized or upgraded (zinc phosphate).
