Removing green deposits from copper and brass box

I have a combination Copper and Brass box with peacocks carved on it that my father made in high school in 1930. It has tarnished to the point that there is a lot of green around some of the carvings. I have tried several products that guarantee to remove this but to no avail. I would appreciate any suggestions that might help. I would love to preserve this box for my children. Thank you for any assistance.

I hope you demanded your money back if they were guaranteed to work but didn't. It's obviously difficult to suggest something more reliable than "guaranteed". It sounds like you may have patches of lacquer on this item though. Try lacquer thinner this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] Warning! highly flammable! first, then the brass polish; or let a plating shop fix it up for you.
