Stainless steel scratch removal

Aloha from the Big Island Of Hawaii,

To put it simply, I want to start my own business. I have found that no one in Hawaii is refinishing Stainless Elevators. Some of them really look bad.
What I need to learn is, what is the most efficient method to remove deep scratches from the surface of the elevators?
What is the safest temperature (rpms)to run a buffer and or sander to prevent metal from bluing?

Any advice would greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Your problem depends on the depth of the scratches and the surface finish as to how you are going to correct the problem. Meaning, you need to know the material you are dealing with and if it has some kind of protective coating. If there is a coating, you then must find a replacement or the materials will oxidize quickly for a number of reasons. As for the scratches, you may need a hand belt system for deep scratches, but I'd try an abrasive non-woven wheel system first. In most cases the wheel may correct the problem entirely; however, for high polish surfaces, you may have to use a cotton buff with a rouge.
