How to Blacken Copper per Mil-F-495

2003

I have a job that I am trying to quote for the military. It calls out for MIL-F-495. Which is basically turning copper to black. The only problem is that there is no real call out of how to do this in the spec. I was wondering if you might know how to do this process, and what the chemicals are in the solution. I am quoting about 5000 1" x 2" copper pieces. If you have any ideas I would really appreciate some info.

Thanks; look forward to hearing from you.

I also have a question on MIL-F-495. Can you help with a specific description of the process (chemistry, times, temperatures, coating thickness required etc.)

Thanks for your help.
