Brite annealing 17-4PH
Is it possible to "brite anneal" 17-4PH stainless parts to the H900 condition, using a 96/4 Nitrogen Hydrogen spec gas mixture? I have been unable to get anything better than a gold appearance to the parts. Unfortunately our customer requests "no discoloration". I am using a high purity spec gas and have installed a oxygen absorbing molecular sieve ahead of the furnace to trap any moisture or oxygen, but to no avail.
I do know the process can be performed in a Hydrogen atmospheric furnace, but we are reluctant to get involved with this explosive mixture. Any experiences would be much appreciated.

Hey, ever consider toolwrap? Will it interfere with your finish requirements? There's several types of annealed sheet available for this that seal out oxygen and seal gas in, when wrapped correctly. If the parts are not very large this may help you satisfy your customer's requirements. -Jeff@holejoy!
