Chrome on S.S. wire
We are the manufacturer of kitchen baskets in S.S. and want to do the electroplating on it. Please suggest the correct method to do the same. It should not chipped out later.

Stainless steel could make a perfect final material if properly electropolished (bright and long lasting) but if you still have a good reason for chrome plating it, then it must be cleaned, electrocleaned, activated in a special highly acidic nickel strike (Wood's is the preferred choice), then bright nickel and chrome plated. You probably will find that not all plating shops have the expertise or the required Wood's bath since it's a bit expensive to set up and releases corrosive fumes to the environment (especially the building). Because most of the commercial work is on plain steel some platers simply don't offer plating on SS. G. Marrufo-Mexico
