acetic acid

2003

Hi,

I'm doing a research about acetic acid this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] . As what I read, acetic acid can be found in ripened lemon. Could you tell me is there a way to extract acetic acid from the lemon fruit? If yes, how and what are the procedures or processes? I hope you can help me in my research.

Thank you,

acetic acid can be made from apples too. I would suggest looking at the local grocery store after doing a google search under "acetic acid ".

First of two simultaneous responses --

acetic acid will be difficult to separate because there are several other acids in small or trace amounts. Dan's search google is your best shot at it.

Second of two simultaneous responses --

acetic acid can also be produced from ethyl alcohol (ethanol). I know it is very wasteful of wine and beer, but if you let either "go off", you will have a lot of acetic acid . The alcohol is oxidised to acetic acid . All you have to do is leave the wine or beer exposed to the atmosphere for a week or so and then distill off the acetic acid . Personally I prefer the internal biochemical processing route in the stomach!
