Pen Plating Problems

Q. When we use the rhodinette plating pen with black rhodium [adv: black rhodium plating solution on eBay or Amazon [affil links] , the plating does not "stay". In other words, when we rinse, it comes off. Also, the plating looks more gray than black. What are we doing wrong?

A. Unfortunately, a shorter list might be the things you are doing right, Pamela :-)

Plating doesn't simply stick where you put it, like glue, rather it electrochemically grows onto a perfectly clean, properly activated substrate, if inadvertent immersion plating is prevented, and the proper voltage, current, temperature, and concentration parameters are in play. In other words you would need to spend at least several paragraphs explaining exactly what you are doing before we can help you, because the problem can be so many different things. Please get back to us.
