Etching fluid for annealed brass
2003
Hello, Please Help.
I'm a student studying materials I need to know what Etching Fluid is used on Annealed BRASS. If anyone could answer this question I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks Regards,

If by etching you mean making patterns in the brass, the most common solution is FeCl3 (35%), closely followed by CuCl2. Both work at elevated temperatures, say 40-50C. If, however, you want to etch brass for metallurgical examination, use a mixture of H2O2 and NH4OH. Formulations can be found in any good metallography book as the best combination will depend on the brass composition.
