Decorative PVD coatings are increasingly used to replace some traditional plating techniques. Decorative PVD coatings are most often deposited using the cathodic arc or sputtering process, or a mixture of both. Decorative PVD coatings can offer a longer life through improved resistance to scratching, abrasion and corrosion and can be more cost effective and environmentally friendly than some traditional plating techniques. The coating thickness is generally a fraction of a micron.
