Deionised water is the term used by laymen and usually means purified process water which has most of the dissolved solids removed.

There are different levels of purity or deionisation, usually any water <1 microsiemen can be considered. It depends on the application.

Processes used to achieve deionised water (DI water) can be one or a combination of the following : reverse osmosis/membrane filtration, ion-exchange or electrodeionisation.
