Recommended coating for custom fabricated auto parts?
Q. Please help. I need recommendations for a plating or coating that can be applied to small custom fabricated auto parts, brackets, etc. that can be applied by your average auto repair shop without lots of special training, equipment or danger. Protection from the elements is the primary goal, esthetics would be secondary.
Thanks in advance,

A. Hi, Richard. It really depends on what they are made of and what they are. But an "average auto repair shop" cannot do plating, they can only do painting.
Please flesh this inquiry out a bit further if you can. I'm having some trouble picturing what you are speaking of. You can't manufacture the parts and ship them with no coating because they'd be rusted before they arrive, if not before they leave your plant. So I am guessing that you are planning to license some design that the auto repair shop would fabricate themselves? Sandblasting and epoxy painting would probably be within the ability of an average shop. Best of luck.
