Need 15 microns of zinc

2002

SIR,

I am currently plating bicycle spokes 2 mm thick x 12" long in a barrel. Capacity of the barrel is 18 kgs in two portions. Acid zinc process is being currently used. My problem is to achieve Min 15 Microns at any given point in the shortest time possible. Currently we are achieving it in 90 min., which in not economical.

You are requested to suggest a solution and we are willing to give any kind of information required by you.

Thank you, regards,

First of two simultaneous responses --

I would disagree about it being uneconomical, I think, Mr. Mohindroo. This thickness, to my knowledge, takes at least 75 minutes or more with the best proprietaries and good practices at the plating shop.

A way to make it economical is to add one or more additional zinc plating cells, so that you can process more work in that 90 minutes. Good luck with it.

Second of two simultaneous responses --

At what current density? At 100% efficiency, Zn deposits 1 micron over a square meter for every 5.863 Amp-hours, according to Modern Electroplating.
