Can I use city water in Chrome Bath

In making up a new Chrome Bath can city water be used in place of D I Water?

Deb,

DI water is preferred over city water because of chloride contamination. If you have a choice, definitely use the DI water.

Best of Luck.

Unless you have very hard water, there generally is no problem using tap water for chrome bath make up. If you have other than typical industrial applications in mind for the chrome bath, that might change the water quality question.

Over here in India we say that the water should be sweet water ie; drinkable without any taste or odour, followed by a simple silver nitrate test, to ensure no chlorides and presto, it's ready to use. I have also successfully used hard water run through a magnetised water purifier. This has removed a little odour, broken down scale formation, and made the water drinkable and usable in a plating shop.
