Iron Phosphate on Alum 383 - coating wgt control [Connecticut]

I may need to control the coating weight of iron phospate dip process on Alum 383 for cosemtic and electical reasons.
We currently spec TTC490E type 2 ( 35 mg/ft2 ) which is a minimum spec and a dip process.
Question?
If we narrow the coating thickness requirement to 35-50 can it be reliably repeated given the process using the standard process controls?
Significant impact on cost?
