Anodize parts being tacky

What would cause parts to have a tacky feeling after they were supposedly dried and what would cause the powdery residual after they have been anodize. Metals predominate used are 2024-T3, T4, and T351; 7075 T6 ; 6061 T6

Hi, Cindy. Probably poor sealing. It's a common theme: Letters 26372, 34094, and 6811 have interesting discussions on this, and you can find still more with the search engine. Good luck.

To take Ted's response a step further, some anodize coatings are required/specified to be sealed, while others are required/specified to be unsealed. Properly sealed coatings will not exhibit the stickiness you mention, while unsealed or inadequately sealed coatings will. A sticky coating does not necessarily mean poor sealing.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
