Stainless steel acid tested positive as gold! [Nevada]

I buy jewelry, recently another master jeweler tested 10k 14k and 18k with scratch acid and came back as gold but once it was assayed it was discovered it was not. Is there a way to double check on items to make sure we are buying gold?
