Intentional tarnishing of brass

I would like to tarnish some brass putters (golf) to a point of making them as black as possible. What chemicals should I use and the technique to be followed.

You need to contact a company called Birchwood Casey [ed. note: now Birchwood Technologies [a finishing.com supporting advertiser]]. They make many solutions to oxidize your putters. They also sell turnkey setups to have a zero discharge system.
